Signup & Login
Is it safe to put my email and password on this site?
Yep - the Discourse engine is used across many internet sites. You can read more about Discourse here.
Do keep in mind that email addresses will always be visible to admin users, but will be hidden by default from standard users.
Email addresses are always hidden from public site view.
If you don’t want to use your main email then I would recommend using TempMail or another dummy provider to sign up / change your address.
The layout of this site is super confusing.
I have made lots of improvements to Collectives over the last year to try and ensure Collectives is innovative and user friendly. As always, having a second pair of eyes on something always helps so I would greatly appreciate any feedback on better ways to organise things. You can post suggestions in the Site Troubleshooting & Issues Thread here.
Topics & Posts
Another user has posted something I don’t like. Can I request it be removed?
The site does have moderation in place despite being a relatively small community.
- There should be a
flag icon below every post in each thread. Flagging the post will bring it to my attention. - This will open a private message thread with the moderator inbox, where you can ask for post removal.
- You can also always send a PM to @Saen or @Operator (they both lead to the same inbox.)
I uploaded a track or mix I now want to remove. Can I do that?
Yep - you should be able to simply soft-delete the post. If you want to request deletion from my database you’ll need to
flag the post to me so that I can ensure it is permanently purged.
A system limitation of the Discourse engine does not allow for hard-deletions to be done by anyone except the main administrator. There is no real way around this for now.
I can’t make DM chats with other users!
This is by design, since it is redundant. To message another user, you should see a button that looks like this below their profile name:
![]()
This opens a new thread akin to DM conversation. Keep in mind that admins and moderators can still send regular DMs which you can respond to, should they need to.
I can’t upload any files!
Small files can be uploaded directly. For larger files, you will need to use a platform like Google Drive or OneDrive. Make sure sharing is enabled and paste the link - the system should format it appropriately for you!
We have a 25GB limit on storage for direct uploads. This is why Google Drive etc. is preferred.
I have another question that isn’t answered here.
I’ll be updating this thread with any additional questions from time to time. If you have a question that isn’t answered here, feel free to send a PM to @Saen / @Operator and the moderation team will get back to you!
Terminology
-
Post: Refers to a single message in a topic thread. For example, this long FAQ message here represents a single post.
-
Topic: A stream for posts, such as the Monthly Mixes thread. Essentially most public discussions are topics. You can create topics within a category.
-
Category: Categories contain topics, such as the General or Development categories. You may be able to create new categories if required.
-
Channel: A slightly different messaging area which is not visible to users who aren’t logged in. We have one channel at the moment - #general-discussion - which is almost like a group DM with all the site’s users.
-
PM: Personal Message. This is what you see when you click the ‘Message’ button on a user’s profile. PMs are very similar to topics, except they are private. In fact, the system will allow you to convert PMs to public topics and vice-versa if needed. You can set titles and custom formatting in personal messages, just like you can with topics. You should also be able to upload media.
-
DM: Direct Message. These are mostly not used and should be disabled by default. DMs are similar to personal messages except they do not have as much functionality. Admin may use DM chat sometimes if needed.
